Mari Nakashima, Communications Director for the Nevada Republican Party, issued the following statement today after the Democrat controlled Senate passed SB 497 on a party line vote. SB 497 is the Democrat sponsored redistricting legislation which “fractures” the Hispanic community in their proposed Congressional maps diluting the community’s vote yet “packs” the Hispanic community in their proposed Assembly districts with overwhelming Hispanic majorities. 
 
“Majority Leader Horsford demonstrated a complete lack of respect for his Republican colleagues in rushing this partisan redistricting plan through the Senate without even allowing a hearing on the Republican proposal.  The Democrats running Carson City have chosen party politics above sound policy, partisanship above what’s morally and legally right.  The maps passed out of the Senate today are in violation of Federal law, demonstrate complete disregard for the will of Nevada voters and reveal a blatant partisan move to propel Democrat aspirations.  Democrat Majority Leader Steven Horsford knows he can’t win a Congressional seat based on issues affecting Nevada, especially after he proposed the largest tax hike in Nevada history, and so he unfairly and illegally cut up southern Nevada to suit his political ambition and the interests of his possible competitors. What a sad, pathetic move by the Senate Majority Leader,” concluded Nakashima.
